Time for Tea

Okay...so in my opening post I said I would be posting layouts where I managed to fit lots of lots of pictures...and this one might just be the Queen Mother of those pages.

The Tea Cups at Disneyland...every time we go over to ride them, the picture taking goes something like this:  I don't ride, because, frankly, at my age I'm not sure I'd come off alive.  Sadly, I just don't do spinning anymore.  So while everyone else rides, I turn my camera on multi-shot and once the ride starts, I pretty much depress the shutter button and start taking pictures.  My intentions are always to "pick the best and delete the rest" but that rarely happens because I'm bad at making choices.  So when all is said and done, I have anywhere from 20-50 pictures.  Out of that scenario, this page was born:

I fit 28 pictures on this page total.  It took a lot of hard thinking to figure out how to do it, but once I had the idea it was pretty easy to carry out.  The paper is just random stuff from my stash--nothing that was coordinated, I just picked paper that matched the really cute Mad Tea Party stickers I was using.  The ribbon buckles and tags are from Scrapworks, and the ribbon is American Crafts.  It was really surprising how easy it was to coordinate all these pieces even when they weren't sold together originally.

The filmstrip on both pages was cut using my Mickey and Friends cartridge and I have used this particular piece a LOT to make more pictures fit on a page, or to help tell a story with the photos by putting them in order.

In this case, I use pictures that were in consecutive order for the filmstrips, so it would actually replicate what you might see on a filmstrip.  The pictures are small, so you can't see a lot of detail, but because they are action shots, they are super fun and I just couldn't leave them off--you can see hair flying and funny faces--priceless!

In this picture you can kind of see how the pictures look being put in order...if you looked up and down really fast you might be able to see the cups actually spinning.  Okay... not really, but that's kind of the idea.

So if you've counted the pictures, you might have noticed that they aren't adding up to 28.  That's because unless you're looking, you don't see my "secret element" on this page--the spinning wheel.

That blue frame at the top of page two is actually a hole in the page.  See the circular piece at the top?  That's the wheel behind the little frame.  The frame is cut from chipboard to make it sturdier and covered with paper.  Directly behind the hole is a piece of transparency glued to the back of the page.  I put that there so that as the wheel is turned the pictures glued to the wheel wouldn't get caught on the hole.  The journaling block was printed on another transparency and is held onto the front with the same brad that is holding the wheel in place.

Picture #2

The space between pictures... all the pictures are glued on at an angle so when it turns they are upright.
Notice there is a notch at the top of the wheel.  I put notches in between all the pictures so it can be turned a little easier.  All in all there are five pictures on the wheel.  I hooked the wheel on temporarily so I could turn and trace and turn and trace--that's how I figured out where to glue the photos.

Hopefully the explanations are good--this was really a fun technique to use to get a lot of pictures onto this layout.  I'm sure I will need to use it again in the future since I don't know how to delete.

You've Got a Friend in Me

This is one of my all time favorite pages and it's because I LOVE the photos!  They tell such a great story and I can still remember this time at Disneyland as though it were yesterday...

Because we had so many kids with our group, we told them everyone needed to have a buddy and stick with that buddy at all times.  These two cute cousins took our admonition very seriously and soon the "Buddy Walk" was born...After getting off every ride they would immediately wrap arms around shoulders and walk in sync wherever they went.  What cute little boys!

This was a super easy page to do because everything but the title came in a coordinating kit from My Mind's Eye.  Since we were at Disneyland I felt the title seemed particularly fitting.  I especially love the photo in the circle taken from behind with the sun glare...and the other one from behind shows how in step they were with each other.

The letters all came from Scrapworks--the white ones are rub ons and the word "friend" is glittered chipboard.  The other small letters that say "in me" (that you can't see in this picture) are from Hobby Lobby--part of their Parts collection and they are brads.

I love that all of these kits from My Mind's Eye come with a cute saying that fits the packet...it saves me a lot of time when I don't have to look for my own quotes and sayings.  And even though I really enjoy making those labor-intensive pages that I make (yes, I'm a weirdo and I embrace it!) it's also fun to have an easy page that comes together really fast sometimes too.   Scrapbooks really should be all about preserving the memories and the pictures, and that's why this is one of my favorites.

Sock Hop

I love the 50's...even though I didn't even live during that decade.  It reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time--Grease!  (Although I showed it to my kids and they were appalled that I could call it one of my favorites because technically it isn't all that nice...but what can I say?)

My daughter's church group had a daddy/daughter Sock Hop.  All the dads and girls dressed in their best 50's attire and it turned out really fun...and out of it I got these cute pictures!  She went with her best friend and her dad, which was also fun for her.

Aside from the plain colored cardstock, all the patterned paper on this page is from Paper Studio and I got it at Hobby Lobby.  I love Paper Studio's coordinating regular paper--the price is good and it's all so cute!  The ribbon is also Paper Studio and was intended to go with the paper, so all the matching was super easy.  The letters for the title are glitter chipboard letters from Scrapworks, and the little musical notes were buttons that I cut the shank off of so they would lay flat.

These cute records aren't really scrapbooking supplies--they are from the party store and part of a long garland decoration that my sister bought for her son's birthday party.  Once the party was over, we cut the garland apart to use for just such an occasion as this.  They are super cute and no, they are not acid free but I'm just not all that concerned about it sometimes.

One of her leaders took lots of pictures of the event and emailed them to all the parents, so I managed to get these little pictures of the party that I could add to the page.  I matted them in white so you could see them better.  They aren't quite as small as they seem, but it is a little hard to see all the people in them.  However, my choice was to put them on small or leave them off altogether, and I didn't want to do that.

I just recently bought the Nifty Fifties Cricut cartridge...it's time for another Sock Hop!  Or maybe she should get a part in the play Grease...as long as she only plays Patty Simcox...

Hot Chocolate!

We loved to take the kids to Christmas Village every year! This was the year we also went to the Layton lights we took donuts and hot chocolate, but when it came time to have our treat we couldn't find a good spot to eat it, so we pulled into a parking lot and popped open the trunk, where the kids sat in a row. They didn't care they were sitting in the trunk, all they cared about were the donuts and hot chocolate!!! Makes for a funny memory!
The paper and chipboard people are from a kit from My Minds Eye, sadly they don't make it anymore. It's one of my favorites! The words "a" and "winter" are glitter chipboard letters from scrapworks.
The words  "night" and "cold" are more of the cute metal letters from provo craft. For the "a" I punched a circle and put it on metal tag from making memories.
The poem on this page is another poem I wrote, probably thought of it when I was showering! Hey! Winnie the Pooh has his thoughtful spot, I guess the shower is mine!!!
