You've Got a Friend in Me

This is one of my all time favorite pages and it's because I LOVE the photos!  They tell such a great story and I can still remember this time at Disneyland as though it were yesterday...

Because we had so many kids with our group, we told them everyone needed to have a buddy and stick with that buddy at all times.  These two cute cousins took our admonition very seriously and soon the "Buddy Walk" was born...After getting off every ride they would immediately wrap arms around shoulders and walk in sync wherever they went.  What cute little boys!

This was a super easy page to do because everything but the title came in a coordinating kit from My Mind's Eye.  Since we were at Disneyland I felt the title seemed particularly fitting.  I especially love the photo in the circle taken from behind with the sun glare...and the other one from behind shows how in step they were with each other.

The letters all came from Scrapworks--the white ones are rub ons and the word "friend" is glittered chipboard.  The other small letters that say "in me" (that you can't see in this picture) are from Hobby Lobby--part of their Parts collection and they are brads.

I love that all of these kits from My Mind's Eye come with a cute saying that fits the packet...it saves me a lot of time when I don't have to look for my own quotes and sayings.  And even though I really enjoy making those labor-intensive pages that I make (yes, I'm a weirdo and I embrace it!) it's also fun to have an easy page that comes together really fast sometimes too.   Scrapbooks really should be all about preserving the memories and the pictures, and that's why this is one of my favorites.

Tiggerific!

Two "Tails" of Tigger...
Since we go to Disneyland so often and make it a point to always visit all the characters we can find and get photos, we have a LOT of character photos.  Here are two different takes on our visits with Tigger:

Jayme's "Tail"
I love all the characters you find at Pooh Corner in Disneyland, but I think I like Tigger the most! He is so playful with the kids and we always get the cutest pictures with him! This page was one of my all time favorites to scrapbook and one of the pages I am most proud of!
I found this sticker in the Disney section at JoAnns I love the color scheme! I love doing any page with bright colors! I used plain green for my background, the stripe and polka dot is from American Crafts and the orange gingham is from Pebbles.
My title is made up of more of those cute metal letters from Provo Craft and the word Tiggerific I spelled using sticker letters I got from Doodlebug Designs! Which I am happy to say you can still get if you visit the Doodlebug Designs booth at the scrapbook expo! I embellished the page with Doodlebug buttons as well, which you can also still get from the Doodlebug booth! I made a frame for my big Tigger sticker using chipboard which I covered with the striped paper. I usually use the backs of my paper pads for the chipboard, I find that it is the perfect thickness. The swirls at the bottom of the page are spare part paper clip swirls, from Hobby Lobby!

The Tigger tags on this page are also mounted on chipboard and attached with matching brads. The ribbon on both pages comes from walmart!
Why doesn't Tigger have any friends?
Cuz he's always playin with Pooh!

Wendy's "Tail"

I agree that Tigger is one of my favorite characters at Disneyland!  And sometimes he's better than others (I suppose it depends who's in the suit...)  I love it when he's playful, posing, and joking around with the kids.

My page is from a totally different trip several years later when the kids were much older.  The Tiggers on my page were made with the Cricut Pooh and Friends cartridge--one of my very favorites and most used!  The font for the title was cut with the Mickey & Friends cartridge--another all time favorite.  None of the paper I used came together--it was just loose paper that I had in my stash and I have no idea where it even came from.

These little guys are called "Twinchies".  Not sure where that name came from, but I saw some online that several people had done and I thought they were an adorable way to make use of very small stickers so they don't get lost on the page.

Since I had some very small stickers that I didn't want to lose on my page, I decided this was the way to go.  I punches some squares with my Sizzix out of chipboard and covered them with some of the patterned paper from the page.  Then I just decorated them with buttons, brads, ribbon, etc as though they were a mini page all their own.  Because they are made from chipboard, they really stand out on the page and give it some dimension.

I love Twinchies!  Now that I know about this fun idea, I no longer hesitate to buy small stickers or other small embellishments because I know I can make good use of them.  And you can make them in any shape--although I haven't tried round ones I think they would be awesome!

So there is my Tigger "tail".  This last year at Disneyland I had to bribe my kids to get pictures taken with Pooh and friends...apparently they are way too old and mature for such nonsense as posing with enormous stuffed animals (yet strangely not too mature to beg for treats like fudge and Tigger Tails at the shop in Pooh Corner...go figure).  I guess I must look forward to the day of grandkids now, so I can continue to scrapbook all these fun characters.

A Slice of Summer

In honor of the warm weather we've been having (and wishful thinking that it will last) I decided to offer up a fun reminder that summer is right around the corner.

The funniest thing about these photos is that my mom deliberately bought a watermelon not so that we could enjoy a nice refreshing treat on a hot summer day, but because she wanted to take some awesome pictures to scrapbook and thought a watermelon layout would be super fun.  So this was a staged event, and considering most of the kids didn't really care for watermelon, you'd never know it from the pictures.  But mom was right, and the page was really fun to put together!

This is a fairly simple page, and I love using small pictures of everyone individually whenever I can. I was sure to include the story of how the watermelon eating fest came to be too--a very important part!

For my title I used some rub on letters and small metal letters from Provo Craft.  The word "summer" was made on the computer using WordArt--I spelled out the word and printed it three different times on three different colors of paper and then cut them out, slicing the letters up to get the different parts of the watermelon.  Then I glued them on white background and cut them out by hand (This was in the days before Cricut--it would be a lot easier now, as long as I had the right font!)

These little slides were made using a technique my sister picked up at a local scrapbooking store.  The clipart images were printed on a transparency, then while the ink was still wet, covered in embossing powder and embossed.  It's hard to tell they are shiny in this picture, but they are.  Until I went searching for this page, I had forgotten all about this little trick, so now I need to do it again!  The shiny stuff on the front of the slides are microbeads.  These happen to be staying on well, although I haven't always had that kind of luck.

So there you have it...my personal invitation for summer to begin.  As sure as I sit here typing it will probably be snowing tomorrow...

Baptism

Baptism days are always super emotional for me! I am always so proud of my boys and the decision they make to be baptized! They are always looking at me throughout the program waiting for me to cry! They know it's coming and feel a great sense of accomplishment when they see the tears! I love the picture below of my son looking at the picture of the Savior and have often thought about making it into an 8x10 so I can frame it.
Bo Bunny stickers are the best! They make a layout so easy! I didn't have any coordinating paper for my sticker though, so I had to go hunting. My background for this page is just a light blue and the patterns are a light blue and green from American Crafts.
The title for this page came from my Bo Bunny sticker! Easy right? No thinking involved! I embellished it with a white silk flower and put one of my paper flowers in the center of the white one with a jewel brad in the middle. the green polka dot ribbon I got at walmart! I'm telling you it's a great place for cheap ribbon! The flourish is chipboard, I painted with a mint green paint, I got it from Fancy Pants a long time ago.
The blue ribbon on this page is some I got from Pebbles. and the little oval words are from Lil Davis Designs. in the corner is another flourish from that same pack I got at Fancy Pants. All the stickers came from that one sheet of Bo Bunny. I left a spot in the corner for my journaling, which is yet to be done. I did this page at a convention. I have a bad habit of telling myself I will do the journaling when I get home and a lot of pages get left undone because I forget to do it. Maybe one day I will remember to do them all, I will probably think of what to say while I am showering. :/

I Love Toontown!

I have to give credit where credit is due, and say that this page was my sister Lori's idea, and it was a good one!  To understand the concept, you have to not only be familiar with Toontown at Disneyland but also Toontown the online game (that has now, sadly, disappeared).

Our kids were all Toontown Online players, and (confession time...) I must admit that so was I...sometimes until late into the night.  All of us absolutely loved the game, and if you never got a chance to play or watch your kids play, you can't possibly understand just how precious it was. For those that aren't familiar, basically you would take on the roll of a little cute animal that makes little cute animal noises and runs around Toontown defeating "cogs" by using gags on them, like throwing a pie, squirting them with flowers, or dropping a safe on them.  If the cogs defeat you, you don't die...you get sad.

After starting to play the game, every time I went to Toontown at Disneyland it's all I could see.  So as the kids were running around being silly and we were taking pictures, story lines involving the online game continued to come to mind.  At first we were thinking something like a comic strip, and when we printed the pictures we added balloons with words to many of the pictures that created a story.  And then this page was born...again, thanks to my sister.  A newspaper!

This page was so much fun to create because it was completely different from anything I've ever done!  I am not a digital scrapbooker at all, but all of it was done on the computer and printed out.  The little pictures in the body of the newspaper are all screenshots from the game itself and the pictures of individual toons are our kids' characters.  If you'll notice the little picture of the toons with hunched shoulders just under the title--that's what you look like when you're sad...and that is my favorite of all the little pictures we got from the game.

These little tags have "eyewitness accounts", just like a newspaper might have.  The three characters quoted are our girls' characters.  It was fun to come up with puns that played right into the game and it's great elements.

The best thing about this page to me now, is not only did I preserve the great fun we had at Disneyland, but I was also able to capture the enormous (and years' worth) of fun we had playing the game online--which is especially important now that the game is gone.  Goodybye, Little Bubbles Bumpenmuddle, I will miss you!

Sock Hop

I love the 50's...even though I didn't even live during that decade.  It reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time--Grease!  (Although I showed it to my kids and they were appalled that I could call it one of my favorites because technically it isn't all that nice...but what can I say?)

My daughter's church group had a daddy/daughter Sock Hop.  All the dads and girls dressed in their best 50's attire and it turned out really fun...and out of it I got these cute pictures!  She went with her best friend and her dad, which was also fun for her.

Aside from the plain colored cardstock, all the patterned paper on this page is from Paper Studio and I got it at Hobby Lobby.  I love Paper Studio's coordinating regular paper--the price is good and it's all so cute!  The ribbon is also Paper Studio and was intended to go with the paper, so all the matching was super easy.  The letters for the title are glitter chipboard letters from Scrapworks, and the little musical notes were buttons that I cut the shank off of so they would lay flat.

These cute records aren't really scrapbooking supplies--they are from the party store and part of a long garland decoration that my sister bought for her son's birthday party.  Once the party was over, we cut the garland apart to use for just such an occasion as this.  They are super cute and no, they are not acid free but I'm just not all that concerned about it sometimes.

One of her leaders took lots of pictures of the event and emailed them to all the parents, so I managed to get these little pictures of the party that I could add to the page.  I matted them in white so you could see them better.  They aren't quite as small as they seem, but it is a little hard to see all the people in them.  However, my choice was to put them on small or leave them off altogether, and I didn't want to do that.

I just recently bought the Nifty Fifties Cricut cartridge...it's time for another Sock Hop!  Or maybe she should get a part in the play Grease...as long as she only plays Patty Simcox...

Hot Chocolate!

We loved to take the kids to Christmas Village every year! This was the year we also went to the Layton lights we took donuts and hot chocolate, but when it came time to have our treat we couldn't find a good spot to eat it, so we pulled into a parking lot and popped open the trunk, where the kids sat in a row. They didn't care they were sitting in the trunk, all they cared about were the donuts and hot chocolate!!! Makes for a funny memory!
The paper and chipboard people are from a kit from My Minds Eye, sadly they don't make it anymore. It's one of my favorites! The words "a" and "winter" are glitter chipboard letters from scrapworks.
The words  "night" and "cold" are more of the cute metal letters from provo craft. For the "a" I punched a circle and put it on metal tag from making memories.
The poem on this page is another poem I wrote, probably thought of it when I was showering! Hey! Winnie the Pooh has his thoughtful spot, I guess the shower is mine!!!
